Tip Spotlight - Interview Tips

Ace that interview and get the job you want with these successful tips!

1)      First impression will get you the job.  Shake hands firmly, smile, and act as if you are excited to be a part of the interview process.

2)      Dress professionally – purchase a suit if you have to but a nice button shirt, tie, and slacks will benefit you with your first impression.

3)      Is it shave and haircut time?  Time to clean up your act.  It might not be acceptable to walk in looking grungy.

4)      No jewelry – piercings or jewelry can send the wrong signs.  Take it out if you can instead of hiding it.

5)      Bring a planner you can write in.  Writing notes about what the employer is talking about shows you think what they are saying is important.

6)      Bring a copy of your resume.  Just in case they misplaced it.

7)      Write down some questions you want to ask.  Hold the pay questions until you are offered the job.  If they bring it up simply tell your employer that you will discuss pay and benefits after you have been offered the job.

8)      Put your accomplishments in words they can understand.  Instead of saying you managed location b – you can elegantly say Hammered overhead cost down at location b by increasing the energy efficiency of machines throughout the location.

9)      Be interactive – finding similarities such as you see a baseball on the desk - ask about baseball.

10)   Inspect their website and location if you can.  Find out as much as you can about their company.

11)  Follow up with a thank you letter.  Thanking them for the interview and their time will remind them about you.

12)  Be early to your interview.  Better to wait than to have them wait for you.

13)  Do not talk about your personal life and habits it can send a wrong message.
